Bargaining Update-2/9/26

We apologize for the lapse in updates to this blog as negotiations continued throughout the last several months.

Negotiations are reaching impasse! The CSN administration has officially initiated mediation and intend to move to fact-finding, pausing negotiations and moving into a more formal phase. As part of its bargaining position, the administration is seeking far-reaching changes to foundational provisions of the current CBA, including:

  • Lowering Summer Pay: Administration wants to replace pro-rata summer pay with significantly lower flat rates. NFA proposes maintaining current pay levels.
  • Appointing Department Chairs: Administration wants to choose Department Chairs. NFA proposes retaining faculty-elected Chairs.

Taken together, CSN’s proposals would materially weaken protections supporting faculty compensation, shared governance, and meaningful faculty decision-making. With roughly half of the contract still unresolved, these proposals raise urgent questions about the future of faculty voice and protections at CSN.
