Bargaining Update 4/1

On Friday, March 28, CSN presented seven (7) counterproposals, including:

This week, NFA and CSN lead negotiators met with CSN President Kibler and NFA President Jill Acree to assess progress after more than four months of negotiations. Both sides acknowledged the slow pace. Kibler noted that CSN has taken steps to improve its internal preparation process, including refining strategic goals and restructuring its negotiations advisory group.

Today, the NFA team observed significant progress, with CSN bringing seven counterproposals to the table and reaching two tentative agreements (Articles 2 and 10).

CSN continues to advocate for an unprecedented six-year contract (Article 22: Successorship), while NFA remains committed to a shorter timeline. A shorter contract would allow faculty to adapt to funding formula changes and push for additional resources for faculty, student support, and department budgets. While these funding adjustments promise to enhance CSN’s financial standing, they require legislative approval. The collective bargaining process ensures faculty have a voice in the college’s budget decisions.

NFA is still awaiting most economic proposals from CSN (Salary, Summer Teaching, Overload) as well as counters on key articles, including:

  • Recognition – Defining the bargaining unit
  • Academic Leadership Roles – Including department chairs
  • Hiring – Faculty position procedures
  • New Proposals – Emeritus status, Evaluations, New Faculty Workloads, Seniority, and more

NFA will continue advocating for faculty priorities and timely resolutions.
